Right now, Fortnite is supposed to be in the midst of its special season 10 ending event, appropriately entitled The End. While there are some who have managed to stay in the game for the event, it appears as though many Fortnite players have lost connection or have been able to get into a game. Reports of downed Fortnite servers are widespread, and appear to be affecting all versions of the popular battle royale game.

It's quite possible that Fortnite's servers are down due to overload. It stands to reason that many people, even those who haven't played Fortnite regularly for quite some time, may be jumping on to witness the event. After all, The End event in Fortnite is expected to be one of the biggest events in the history of the game, with many under the assumption that it will bring with it a brand new map.

An App Store leaked has more or less confirmed that The End event in Fortnite will bring with it Chapter 2 of the battle royale game. This will apparently include a brand new map, with all-new locations. Epic Games undoubtedly hopes that this refresh of the Fortnite experience will draw in lapsed players, and if the server issues the game is currently experiencing are any indication, it seems as though Epic's plan has succeeded.

Once The End event wraps, Fortnite server downtime is expected. If The End is kicking off Season 11 and adding a brand new map, then Fortnite will presumably need a sizable update to go with it. Such an update has yet to be released, so it's quite possible that there is some planned Fortnite downtime in the works as well. Those who try to log on to the battle royale game today should keep that in mind.

In the meantime, it's possible Epic Games will extend the duration of The End event in Fortnite so more players get a chance to experience it happen, but that has yet to be determined at the time of this writing.

Fortnite is out now in early access for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
