Tsutomu Satou's The Irregular at Magic High School series ran as a part of ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Bunko imprint from 2011-2020. The series accumulated 32 collected volumes throughout its near decade-long run and inspired a manga adaptation, spin-off titles, and an anime adaptation.

An anime adaptation from Madhouse directed by Manabu Ono (Sword Art Online: Alicization - War of Underworld) was released during the Spring 2014 season. Studio Eight Bit took over for season 2, which aired during the Fall 2020 season and was directed by Risako Yoshida, who directed the Reminiscence Arc special as well as the 2017 The Girl Who Calls the Stars film.

The spin-off The Honor Student at Magic High School manga inspired a 13-episode anime adaptation that aired during the Summer 2021 season. The series was produced by Connect and directed by Hideki Tachibana, who is best known for his work on the Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? and A Certain Scientific Railgun series.

Yen Press publishes the light novel and manga series in English. Aniplex of America licenses the anime in English, with the series available to stream on Crunchyroll and Funimation.
