GR Picks: Fan-Made Iron Man Xbox 360 Mod

If any of you are like me, every once in a while you come across someone's blog, or a gaming site that features a piece of fan-made game hardware modification that blows your mind. I don't know how these people do it, but it makes it very clear to me that even on days that I think I'm being productive, almost all of my time is being wasted NOT constructing a fully-functioning replica of the portal gun.

But my inadequacies have reached a new height after witnessing the latest creation of Indianapolis-based student Zachariah Perry Cruse, a hand-designed and fabricated Iron Man themed Xbox 360.

Take a look:

While some people might just add the angles and paint scheme and call it a day, Zach went ahead and installed a glowing arc reactor, with fully functioning LEDs that flash on start-up. Comic book fans, you may want to remember this day, since life may not get much better.

You even have a chance to make this little beauty your own, as Zach has placed the system up for auction, so act fast! Bidding starts at a cool $1000, so if you've got a grand burning a hole in your pocket and a love for all things Stark, it's a no-brainer. For more information and images of the project, head over to Zach's blog. I personally can't wait to see what he comes up with next. (Trench-coated Rorscach Xbox please!)

I don't know about you guys, but the constant release of elite custom editions of gaming systems makes me want to mod one of my own. A few years ago, I decided to stop my procrastinating and turn my old NES into an alarm clock after witnessing the same in a PC magazine, and the results were pretty satisfactory. By that, I mean that I felt as if I had become a god, melding the skills of craftsmanship and gaming on a level never before witnessed by man. It's fans like these that make me want to give it another shot.

How about you guys? Does Zachariah's artistic expression get your creative juices flowing, or do you think system designs are best left to the professionals?
