Taking inspiration from Nintendo and its Nintendo Direct presentations, Sony kicked off its first-ever State of Play livestream with the announcement of Iron Man VR for PlayStation VR. Made in collaboration with Camouflaj Games and Marvel, Iron Man VR will have players looking through the eyes of Iron Man himself, using PlayStation Move controllers to blast away enemies.

Details on the game remain scarce, but the trailer does seem to indicate that it will also have out of suit segments where players are controlling an unarmored Tony Stark. Combat looks like it will consist of on-rails shooter sections, but it's possible the final product will be a more involved.

It appears as though Iron Man VR will offer a story-based adventure, as opposed to just letting players live out a power fantasy of being Iron Man. From what we can tell by the trailer, the story will be about the dangerous computer hacker Ghost, who appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the main villain of Ant-Man and the Wasp. Ghost is traditionally an Iron Man villain, so it makes sense for him (or her, depending on which incarnation is in the game) to be in Iron Man VR.

Due to how brief the Iron Man VR game trailer was, there's still a lot we don't know about the project. For example, it's unclear if it is a PlayStation VR exclusive, or if it will be available for other virtual reality headsets as well. However, it wouldn't be all that surprising if it does turn out to be a PlayStation VR exclusive.

After all, Marvel and Sony have developed a strong relationship thanks to the PS4-exclusive Spider-Man from Insomniac Games that won numerous awards and is considered by many to be one of the best superhero games ever made. Considering the success Marvel saw by lending Spider-Man to Sony, one has to imagine that it would want to keep working with PlayStation on future video game projects.

Whether or not Iron Man VR can be for virtual reality games what Spider-Man was to traditional games remains to be seen. We'll find out when Iron Man VR releases later this year.

Iron Man VR will launch in 2019 for PlayStation VR.
