Robert Downey Jr. has played two of the most iconic characters of all time: Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes. Now, his versions of the two characters are combined to take on Chris Evans' Captain America in a fan-made video.

Posted to Reddit, the creative fan used footage from the final one-on-one battle scene between Captain America and Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War. At first, the audio remains the same as that in the film. The A.I assistant to Stark, F.R.I.D.A.Y., tells him that he can't beat Steve Rogers hand to hand, so Tony asks her to analyze his fight pattern. In response, F.R.I.D.A.Y. scans Steve and then says to Tony, "Counter-measures ready."

In the original scene, Tony starts to gain the upper hand in his fight, taking advantage of the counter-measures F.R.I.D.A.Y. is no doubt showing him. In this fan-made edit, however, this is the point where the audio shifts. The fan who made the video edits in the audio from the well-known underground fight scene from 2009's Sherlock Holmes, where the titular detective's inner monologue narrates the way he is taking down his opponent.

Watching the video, the combination of the two scenes feels very logical. The way that F.R.I.D.A.Y. scans and analyzes Steve's fight patterns in order to gauge his habits and weaknesses is similar to the way Sherlock himself analyzes human behavior, in this case, to defeat his opponent in combat. Additionally, both the Captain America: Civil War and Sherlock Holmes scenes feature Downey Jr.'s character gaining the upper hand in a fight where he had seemingly been at a disadvantage initially.

There have been several versions of the character Sherlock Holmes in the past decade or so. While the other two major iterations of the character were also played by superhero actors - Man of Steel's Henry Cavill in Enola Holmes and Doctor Strange's Benedict Cumberbatch as the BBC Sherlock - Downey Jr.'s version has been the most physical so far, the most likely to get in a fight. It makes perfect sense that it is this version of the character that earns a crossover with his actor's superhero counterpart.

Of course, Downey Jr.'s time as Iron Man came to end with the release of Marvel Studios' Avengers: Endgame, which concluded with the hero sacrificing himself to defeat Thanos and his army. What the future holds for Downey Jr.'s Sherlock Holmes is a little more bright, as a third film is said to be in the works with Bohemian Rhapsody director Dexter Fletcher at the helm.

Iron Man is now available on Disney Plus.
