Today's Apple event was full of major announcements. The Cupertino, California based company revealed the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus, wowing fans at home and everyone in attendance. But the company also revealed a third product as well, and it could be Apple's flashiest smartphone yet.

Called the iPhone X (the X is pronounced as "ten"), the handset is Apple's new flagship smartphone. Available in space gray and silver, the iPhone X almost entirely does away with the bezel for its 5.8-inch display, essentially making it a giant touchscreen.

This iPhone X screen offers several milestones. It is the first iPhone do away with a physical home button, and it offers a 2436 x 1125 resolution which is the highest for any iPhone yet. Its Super Retina Display is presented on an OLED screen, unlike the LCD screens on previous models.

The iPhone X includes some cool new features such as Face ID which identifies the user's face using sensors and cameras to make a 3D map of their face. It is so accurate that users can use their face to pay for things via Apple Pay. Other features include dual 12 MP cameras and "Animojis" which are moving emojis that react to the user's facial expression. It could well give Snapchat's filters a run for their money.

The iPhone X also includes some improvements on the gaming side of things. The phone includes Apple's A11 "Bionic" chip which has two cores for performance and four cores for energy efficiency. This should mean that games run a lot smoother on the device, and it should also mean that more powerful games are less of a drain on battery. Wireless charging is another big new feature for the phone, with all three of the new iPhone models (including the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus) boasting the feature.

But none of the new features on the iPhone X come cheaply, and Apple wants buyers to pay a premium for all of these "firsts." The iPhone X has a release date of November 3 and will be available with either 64GB or 256GB storage options. Prices for the device begin at $999, making the iPhone X the most expensive new iPhone model ever. The silver lining is that pre-orders for the iPhone X do not begin until October 27 which should give potential buyers enough time to save the money for this pricey piece of hardware.

Apple's iPhone X is set to release on November 3, 2017.
