Whenever Apple releases a new device, fans the world over rush out to purchase it without hesitation. This definitely proved true for last year's iPhone models, which managed to set a record by selling a whopping 10 million units in just three days.

This sales record didn't last long, however, as the freshly released iPhone 6S and 6S Plus models have already managed to soar by their predecessors, establishing a new record for fastest-selling iPhone.

According to sales data provided by Apple, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus have reached 13 million units sold in three days. This is extremely impressive, and means that the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus are now the fastest-selling iPhone models in history. Expect the overall sales to skyrocket even further, as Apple plans on expanding the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus into 40 more countries by October 9th, with over 130 countries scheduled to receive the smartphones by the end of 2015. This is all despite possible delays caused by the Pope's recent visit to the United States.

This sales success reiterates a continuing trend with Apple's iPhone devices, in that they seem to get more popular with every iteration. After all, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus have sold 3 million more units than their predecessors in the same amount of time, and before that, the iPhone 5 sold 9 million units in three days. If the trend continues, expect the iPhone 7, or whatever the next iteration is to be called, to break the new sales record set by the iPhone 6S line.

While there are many people that buy the new iPhone simply because it's the new iPhone, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus do offer a number of features not available in previous iterations of the mobile device. These new features include the 3D Touch capabilities as well as 4K video recording. The latter is perhaps the biggest selling point for those that have chosen to upgrade, especially as videos in 4K resolution are becoming increasingly more common this past year.

The ever-increasing popularity of mobile smartphones will continue to have wide-reaching ramifications on the gaming industry. More gamers are choosing to game on their phones than ever before, and the audience is so large that video game developers simply can't ignore it. Even Nintendo has thrown its hat into the mobile gaming ring, after many years of resistance, and they hope to utilize the platform to make some extra cash on their hottest properties. If the Pokemon Go AR game is any indication, mobile gaming will only get more exciting with Nintendo and other larger developers finally taking it seriously.
