Insurgency: Sandstorm is a realistic shooter developed by New World Interactive. The PC shooter has had success and a port is headed to the PS4, but the port has been delayed.

Once a surefire 2020 video game release, Insurgency: Sandstorm has now been delayed multiple times for PS4. Publisher Embracer Group has acquired New World Interactive, and the update on that information coincides with a delay of the military shooter port until 2021.

Embracer purchased Saber Interactive earlier in the year, the developer of the World War Z game, so it seems that the company is using studio acquisitions as a part of its strategy. Other than the delay of the PS4 version of Insurgency: Sandstorm, no details have yet emerged about what else could come from the game based on the acquisition.

Because the launch of the PS5 is right around the corner, it's fair to wonder if New World Interactive should focus on a PS5 version of the game instead. Insurgency: Sandstorm was considered one of the better 2018 indie games, so having the military tactical shooter on the newest generation of consoles could certainly be exciting.

The online multiplayer game reminds many fans of games like Call of Duty before the series leaned into some arcade-like features. Insurgency: Sandstorm looks gorgeous and plays well on the PC, so it could be right at home on the PS5 as well. Whether or not the game arrives on the PS5 is not yet known, but PS4 fans can expect the title to launch in 2021 at some point.

Insurgency: Sandstorm is available now on the PC and in development for the PS4.
