While the reveal of the long-awaited Spider-Man 2 PS5 game was a nice surprise at the PlayStation Showcase, that game's announcement was only a matter of "when." The much bigger shock came when it was revealed that not only is Insomniac Games working on Spider-Man 2, but it's also working on a PlayStation exclusive Wolverine video game as well, and now more details about that project have come to light.
The Wolverine video game from Insomniac Games is being helmed by Brian Horton and Cameron Christian, who serve as its creative director and game director, respectively. This duo led development on Spider-Man: Miles Morales, so they have certainly proven that they are more than capable of delivering a top-quality game. Insomniac has the same goal with the Wolverine game as it did with Spider-Man, and that is to make something that is true to character's spirit but also feels "fresh" and reflects "the Insomniac spirit."
Insomniac also confirmed that the Wolverine game is "standalone." While not explicitly stated, this does seem to suggest that this means that the Wolverine game is not necessarily set in the same universe as the Spider-Man game. There may be some nods between the games, but anyone hoping for this to be the start of an Insomniac-helmed Marvel video game universe will want to reel in their expectations a bit.
As for when fans will get to play the Wolverine game, it may be quite some time before it's ready for launch.
