Fresh off the heels of the new Ratchet and Clank remake, Insomniac Games reveals an upcoming new game titled Feral Rites, which has been described as ‘Zelda meets God of War’.
2016 is shaping up to be quite the year for Insomniac Games, and based off the number of projects in the pipeline, it is definitely giving Telltale Games a run for its money as the industry’s busiest developer. Fresh off the release of the new Ratchet and Clank remake, the developer has announced that it has a new action game titled Feral Rites in the works.
Feral Rites creative director Marcus Smith – who also directed the Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive – describes Insomniac’s new game as having the “exploration of Zelda” and the “all-out-combat” of God of War. Players can choose whether to play as a male or female, and will be given the ability to transform into different beasts with special abilities and powers. Fighting will utilize a combo-based combat system, which will also incorporate mid-air combos and executions.
While no trailer has been released, the developer has released a handful of Celtic-influenced art work and screenshots, which can be seen here. Given that the upcoming Zelda game is set to feature an absolutely gorgeous open world, and God of War had some of the best boss fights we’ve ever seen, things are already looking up for Feral Rites.
While no release date for Feral Rites has been revealed, the upcoming action game will launch exclusively on the Oculus Rift sometime this Fall. The Oculus Rift may have only just been released, but Feral Rites is not the only VR game that Insomniac is working on. Some months ago, Insomniac revealed that it is working on a brand new Oculus Rift exclusive game titled Edge of Nowhere, which is also scheduled for release sometime this year.
For those who are unable to afford the Oculus Rift’s $599 price tag, there’s yet another new upcoming IP from Insomniac titled Song of the Deep. This new game is set for a Summer 2016 launch, and gamers will be glad to know that it is headed to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC rather than a VR headset.
Having announced a few years ago that it is “moving on” from sequels, Insomniac has definitely stuck to its word with all of its upcoming new games. With VR gaming shaping up to be the next big thing, those still on the fence about VR may want to start considering saving up for a new Oculus Rift headset.
The release date for Feral Rites has not yet been announced, but it is scheduled for an exclusive 2016 fall launch for the Oculus Rift.
