A few months after Telltale Games announced its sudden closure, lead writer Mary Kenney revealed that she would be joining Insomniac Games, the studio behind Marvel’s Spider-Man.

The announcement was made on Kenney’s personal Twitter account, confirming that she is set to join the Insomniac team in the New Year. As a lead writer at Telltale Games, Kenney was behind some of the episodes of the studios’ most popular franchises. Kenney did not reveal what her role will be at Insomniac, but it is assumed that it will be somewhat similar to her writing stint at Telltale Games.

Kenney’s writing credits include Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season and Batman: The Enemy Within. For The Walking Dead, Kenney was credited as the lead writer for Episode 2: Suffer the Children. For Batman: The Enemy Within, on the other hand, Kenney served as one of the writers for Episodes 1 and 3. Outside of Telltale, Kenney also provided writing work for Sunburned Games’ The Great Whale Road, working as the main campaign writer for The Danes and The Frisians campaigns.

While most of Insomniac’s games are not really known for their heavy focus on narrative, the studio’s most recent release, Marvel’s Spider-Man was recently nominated for both Game of The Year and Best Narrative at this year’s The Game Awards. Although Spider-Man did not win either category, it is possible that Insomniac is looking to develop another narrative-focused game, and the hiring of Kenney is just the first step.

As for the fate of Kenney’s former employer, Telltale Games laid off the remainder of its staff a few weeks ago and the studio is facing a class-action lawsuit filed by several of its former employees. While it is sad to see the demise of Telltale Games, at least one of its previous lead writers has found a home at a new game studio.

Lastly, as for what will happen to Telltale’s The Walking Dead, Skybound Games has previously revealed that it is going to take over the development of the game’s remaining episodes. Skybound Games is founded by Robert Kirkman, who is also the creator of The Walking Dead comic book franchise. In a recent announcement a few weeks ago, Skybound revealed that Episode 3 of The Walking Dead: The Final Season is set to release on January 15, 2019.
