Recently, it was announced that Inside Out will have a sequel, which had Pixar fans cheering as the 2015 movie is everything that fans want in this type of film: charming, heartfelt, warm and comforting, and above all, hilarious.

Inside Out 2 will be about teenage emotions and will focus on the same main character going through a tough time, which is welcome news considering how heartwarming and wonderful the first film is.

Inside Out 2 will see Riley (voiced by Kaitlyn Dias in the first film) as a teenager, and Amy Poehler explained to People that the story will focus on the feelings that adolescents experience. Poehler said, "We're going to have what it feels like to be a teenager, the new emotions that live inside a young person's brain. In many ways, it was really exciting. We knew exactly where we were. We go to the teen brain and we see the madness that lives inside there."

Inside Out excels at sharing how Riley feels about everything that happens in her life, big and small, whether it's moving away from home and being scared of that big change or hating the fact that she has to eat broccoli for dinner. The fact that the sequel will focus on teenage emotions is welcome news as the young adult genre allows characters to experience a wide range of relatable and interesting feelings. Even teen horror TV shows see protagonists who are dealing with changes, hormones, dating issues, chaotic families, and trouble at school, so a funny and sweet animated film focused on a teenage Riley is going to be impressive.

One of the most memorable scenes from the original film is when young Riley is upset about losing a hockey game and Sadness shares what has happened: "It was the day the Prairie Dogs lost the big playoff game. Riley missed the winning shot, she felt awful. She wanted to quit." Riley is also upset about leaving her home state of Minnesota and living in San Francisco, which feels big and scary.

Pixar's theatrical short films are amazing and so are their feature-length movies, and a big reason for that is how each story wraps up properly. Riley is 12 years out at the end of Inside Out and she has come to terms with her big move, making new pals and learning more about who she is. This sets up a sequel well as now Riley is in her teenage years and fans already know that means big feelings and tough moments.

Riley in Inside Out

While the teen horror genre might be dead as there aren't that many movies focusing on high schoolers being released anymore, Inside Out 2 will be able to tell the story of a teenage girl brilliantly and hilariously. The first movie is so memorable because the emotions are given colors and personalities and they are actual living, breathing figures who live in Riley's brain. It's so brilliant to be able to actually see the feelings that Riley is cycling through, and now that she's a high school student, it makes sense to tell a story about that time in her life.

Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling won't be in Inside Out's sequel, so there likely won't be the emotions Fear or Disgust in this new film. While those are definitely feelings that teenagers face, Riley deals with them so much in the first movie that it makes sense to focus on something else this time around. Perhaps Embarrassment or Excitement will appear in the sequel, as teenagers definitely feel those things over and over again. The idea of making Riley a teenager is also so smart because while little kids scream and cry, they don't know how to really talk about what they're feeling. High schoolers can at least articulate themselves a bit more, whether talking to a romantic interest or their friends, and it will be great to see what Riley is like now.

Audiences loved getting to know adorable and sweet Riley and her passionate and smart personality. It will be great to watch Riley as a teenager as the movie will likely spark many important conversations among families about dealing with feelings and not sweeping them under the rug. It works perfectly that Inside Out 2 is about high school because it's so tempting for teenagers to hold everything inside and ignore their parents while they hole up in their bedrooms and listen to music or watch TV or look at social media. Some antimated sequels are better than the originals and hopes are definitely high for Inside Out 2. The 2015 film is so beloved that fans can't wait to see what Riley is dealing with this time.
