In the Roguelike deck builder game Inscryption, players will have to battle across entire maps and take on bosses at the end of each. There are four bosses total in this creepy indie horror title, and each has a unique way of attacking. In order to beat the game master and escape the room, players will need to take each one on.

The First Inscryption Boss: The Prospector

Inscryption-All-Bosses-3

The very first boss is the Prospector. Players will have to take him on after completing the first map. When battling any boss in Inscryption, players will only have one lit candle, meaning they will only have one life instead of the normal two while the boss has two lives. After collecting all the possible cards from Inscryption's Act 1, the battle will begin.

In his first life, the very creepy Inscryption boss, the Prospector, will have several fairly easy to defeat cards. He doesn't do much during these first turns, but he will have one special card on the field: the Mule.

The Mule has a packet of cards underneath it, and when the player kills the Mule, they will get all of the cards in that packet directly into their hands. After this round, when the player has extinguished one of the Prospector's candles, the Prospector will turn all of the player's cards into gold nuggets.

Once a gold nugget is in a slot in front of the player, that slot is unusable until the Prospector's creatures "kill" it. Players will want to keep back some hard-hitting critters for part two of the fight since no creatures will survive from phase 1 to phase 2.

The Second Inscryption Boss: The Angler

Inscryption-All-Bosses-2

The Angler is a ramp-up in difficulty from the Prospector. This fish-themed boss will steal a player's creatures and flood his side of the board with flying and waterbound creatures like 4/2 Sharks and 1/1 Kingfishers. The key tips to remember when taking this guy on in this roguelike deck builder are:

  • When the Bait Bucket cards are killed, they flip over to become waterbound sharks that deal a ton of damage.
  • The Angler will always steal the last card a player has played in a turn. If there is a glowy outline of a hook on a card, make sure to play something else (like a Squirrel) that isn't too bad to lose to him.
  • Use Airborne cards in order to hit the Angler without triggering the Bait Buckets.

The Third Inscryption Boss: the Trapper and the Trader

Inscryption-All-Bosses-4

The Trapper is that very same guy that players have been trading pelts with, but this time he's after a human pelt. In order to avoid his very sharp skinning knives and having to fill out another Death Card, players should be careful when taking this guy on.

The leaping traps in front of him will turn the player's creatures into pelts; make sure to save these for the Trader round. Try to slide into the gap between the traps in order to damage the Trapper. Once the Trapper is gone, the Trader will appear. When a player plays one of the pelts, it will exchange with the Trader's creatures, giving players free creatures to use against the boss. After that, there is only one more boss in this horror title.

The Final Inscryption Boss: Leshy and the Moon

Inscryption-All-Bosses-5

The Final Boss has three phases instead of two like the previous battles. It's not easy to get to this boss, but there are some helpful items around the room that can help players, like finding the ring inside of Inscryption's clock puzzle. He will test the player twice, and after that, the battle will begin.

  • Phase 1: Players will have to take on the three previous bosses again as the Final Boss remixes all the powers of the previous fights.
  • Phase 2: Players will have to battle against their own death cards, which is a nice twist in this horror video game.
  • Phase 3: Leshy will summon a Moon Card that will take up all four slots on his side. This card has 40 life and players cannot damage Lechy until the Moon is defeated.

Inscryption is available for PC.
