A Chinese court ruled that a 2018 fantasy-comedy movie infringed upon SNK's copyright. Japanese game developer SNK Playmore is known for its hugely popular fighting game series, such as The King of Fighters, which is the copyright infringed upon here.

A report by J-Cast, translated by Kotaku, reveals that SNK China has been awarded $115,000 in damages after 2018 movie Warrior Angels was founded to have infringed upon the company's copyright. The fantasy comedy movie, which features a female character who turns into a "red clad woman" to avenge her father, will also be pulled from distribution under the order. However, the court ruling has been appealed.

Warrior Angels seems to feature several characters that look like they've jumped out of The King of Fighters and any of these could have been the reason for the court's ruling. The King of Fighters character Mai Shiranui famously wears a red dress and looks a lot like Qiao Fan, the "red clad" main character in Warrior Angels. Another character looks like The King of Fighters Korean team member Chang Koehan but without a beard.

It's unclear what will happen with the Warrior Angels appeal and if The King of Fighters bootleg movie will keep on being available. For those who want something new and official from the series, there is The King of Fighters Allstar mobile game.
