The cast of characters ready to do battle in Injustice: Gods Among Us just got a bit bigger. Thanks to some revealed images and gameplay details, fans now have an idea of how Nightwing and Cyborg will look and fight in the finished game. More official trailers and images are expected from San Diego Comic Con 2012 soon, but the early signs show extremely unique move sets and styles.

NetherRealm Studios lead and Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon has been teasing big reveals for Injustice coming this week, and it didn't take long for the new pair of characters to make their way online. As can be seen by the character designs and fighting stances, these incarnations of Cyborg and Nightwing look to be both faithful and refreshing.

The announced duo of Dick Grayson and Vic Stone comes as not too much of a surprise, since Cyborg was one of the characters we felt should appear in the game, and Nightwing proved he's worthy of more current-gen attention than he's received so far with his brief but memorable appearance in Arkham City.

Luckily the promise isn't just skin-deep. From our first-hand time with Injustice at E3, we noted just how much potential there was for characters to have their own unique attacks and specialized fighting styles. From gameplay details reported by TheVerge, it seems NetherRealm has followed that principle with both the new fighters.

As he is in the comic books, Nightwing is reliant upon his weaponry to give him the edge over super-powered opponents. The screenshots show the signature batons which can be joined to form a longer staff. The staff gives Grayson long-range options, but breaking it down increases speed and jump height. The difference promises not just the chance for players to choose their own style within a single character's match, but the ability to switch on the fly with a simple button-press.

Cyborg, also predictably, is deadly from both close and medium-range thanks to his arsenal of missiles, fireballs and steel appendages. His wild card is a special healing ability that will make a simple 'run and hide' defensive strategy particularly risky for less aggressive opponents. Obviously seeing some extensive, high-quality gameplay footage will be needed to convince the skeptics, so expect some more assets in the near future.

Ed Boon has also been rumored to have teased Deathstroke, Aquaman and Green Arrow, but until more fighters are revealed it may be best to avoid getting too excited. What do you think of the new character designs? Think the revealed images and gameplay details are promising for any other heroes or villains?

Update: Warner Bros. Interactive has released official screenshots of Nightwing and Cyborg. Check them out below.
