The DLC for Injustice: Gods Among Us has been somewhat of a mixed bag so far. Along with a truly great addition, in the form of Lobo (and later Martian Manhunter), a number of controversial choices like Scorpion, Batgirl, and General Zod, weren't as well received. In the case of Scorpion, certain gamers felt as though the Mortal Kombat combatant was taking up a spot that could have easily gone to another fan-favorite hero or villain from the DC Universe. Similarly, Batgirl and Zod were mostly dismissed as uninspired choices that were a little too close to other entries on the roster.

Fortunately, NetherRealm Studios is continuing to churn-out additional characters for their comic book-inspired fighter. As mentioned, many fans were excited to hear Martian Manhunter would be a playable add-on and now the team is following him up with another intriguing entry, Zatanna Zatara.

Unlike Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and many other entries in Injustice: Gods Among Us, Zatanna may not be immediately known to casual gamers who weren't also hardcore comic book readers. For that reason, and in honor of Zatanna's official launch on PSN and Xbox Live (no information was provided on when the character will be available on the Wii U but expect her to arrive sometime in the not-too-distant future), the developer has put together a trailer detailing the character's history and backstory . Check it out at the top of the page.

Injustice Gods Among Us Zatanna DLC Character

As shown in the video, the magician has played a major role in the DC Universe - crossing paths with some of DC's most powerful and well-known heroes and villains. It doesn't hurt that Zatanna is also one of the only characters that could, conceivably, control Superman - given that (as the video points out) the Man of Steel is especially susceptible to magic. For that reason, it's unfortunate that Zatanna wasn't featured in the game from the outset - since she could have provided an interesting element to the campaign storyline.

Instead, the character is offered at the standalone cost of 400 MS Microsoft Points or $4.99 on the PlayStation Network - and is not included as part of the title's original DLC season pass. Still, Zatanna's special abilities are pretty unique - and, in keeping with the character, are named with backwards text - meaning that players who still want to play more Injustice but have tired of the main cast, might find the new DLC character will freshen-up the experience a bit. After all, those Teppup Retsam, Tropelet Tnief, and Gniknil Sgnir specials - along with Avrah KaDabra super move - should provide plenty of fun and unique ways to humiliate opponents.
