Fan excitement over the reveal of Cyborg and Nightwing as playable fighters in Injustice: Gods Among Us is likely still at a high, and thankfully the new gameplay video released of the pair in action show those feelings are justified. With unique fighting styles and a great variety of attacks, the characters really do look promising for the game as a whole.

Just yesterday screenshots of Nightwing and Cyborg's new character designs made their way online ahead of an official announcement. So far a small minority of the DC superheroes and villains have been confirmed to be appearing in Injustice, but all those aware of NetherRealm's past projects needed to at least get interested was a sign that the developers would be doing justice to the comic book characters' roots.

Our time with Injustice at E3 showed that the first fighters shown exhibited some compelling variety and inspired fighting styles. The latest gameplay footage courtesy of Gamespot shows both Nightwing and Cyborg's approach to combat. Nightwing's variety of attacks with both a staff and batons does seem to have a marked impact on the character's mobility and speed - more than might be expected, and extremely promising for other heroes and villains we'd love to see in the game.

Cyborg, on the other hand, shows that the amount of time Ed Boon claims has been put into each character is more than just aesthetic. For starters, the human-machine hybrid is comparable in size to his opponent Flash, so the choice to simply portray the character as a hulking melee fighter has been avoided. The look of Injustice's version of Vic Stone is very much in keeping with that seen in DC's 'New 52,' which hints at which other recently-featured DC characters are most likely to appear in the game.

The Cyborg fight within the Batcave shows how much the environments and fighters chosen will make each stage unique, when compared to the previous gameplay footage located in the same arena. NetherRealm is making a strong case to comic book fans with their faithful incarnation of Cyborg, with his hand-to-hand combat and weaponry acting as a nice counter to Nightwing's mobility and acrobatics.

Does this new footage on the tailored styles and weapon options get your hopes up for other possible appearances? If our hopes of Arsenal or Green Arrow appearing in the game are met, Nightwing's ability to swap weapons on the fly could be extremely promising.

Injustice: Gods Among Us is scheduled for a 2013 release on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U.
