The Mortal Kombat 11 Joker DLC launches on January 28, but clips of the new character have already been revealed by NetherRealm Studios. So far, fans have gotten a look at Joker's Fatalities, Brutalities, alternate costumes, and some of his dialogue. Some of The Joker's dialogue in Mortal Kombat 11 is particularly interesting, as it teases the next installment in the Injustice fighting game franchise.

It's been discovered that if players have The Joker fight himself, the dialogue they exchange references a potential Injustice 3 game. The exchange goes like:

Joker 1: We'll have to make do as a dynamic duo.

Joker 2: Only two of us? That's an injustice!

Joker 1: What we could do with a third.

The use of the word "injustice" is telling, though Mortal Kombat 11 game director Ed Boon himself has tweeted about the intro, insisting that it has nothing to do with Injustice 3. Another possibility is that the dialogue is in reference to the Batman: Three Jokers comic books, but Boon has been known to troll fans on social media, so it's really hard to say one way or another.

There are many instances of Boon trolling fans on Twitter, often teasing them about things like Mileena DLC and the like. Considering this, it's quite possible that Boon is doing the same thing here. It just seems odd to use the word "injustice" and reference a "third" when the studio behind Mortal Kombat 11 has another series called Injustice that is going on its third entry.

Both Injustice: Gods Among Us and Injustice 2 were big hits, so it seems like an Injustice 3 seems like an inevitability. And with next-generation consoles on the way, it seems like it will soon be the perfect time to bring the series back with a fresh coat of paint and new features. However, it's also possible that NetherRealm will be moving forward with Mortal Kombat 12 next instead, or maybe it will surprise everyone and do something completely different.

Before fans need to concern themselves with NetherRealm's next game, though, it may be prudent to wait for the rest of the Mortal Kombat 11 DLC to release. After The Joker DLC launches on January 28, there's still Spawn DLC to look forward to in March, plus the possibility of a second Kombat Pack. With potentially a lot more content still left to come for Mortal Kombat 11, it may be quite a long wait until we see anything about Injustice 3 or whatever NetherRealm's next game is.

Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
