Game developer NetherRealm Studios officially reveals Wonder Woman and Blue Beetle as two playable characters for the forthcoming fighting game Injustice 2.

After having been revealed with an official trailer about a month ago, Injustice 2 fans are almost assuredly frothing at the mouths like Superman injected with Joker serum while they wonder in enthused anticipation what the game's full roster is going to be upon release. Thankfully, the title's developers at NetherRealm Studios have fulfilled the promise from the company's creative director Ed Boon's tease a few days back that its panel at San Diego Comic-Con would reveal new characters.

During today's afternoon event held for the DC fighting game at SDCC, it was revealed that Wonder Woman and Blue Beetle will be joining the title's ranks among the likes of Aquaman, Atrocitus, Batman, Gorilla Grodd, Superman, and Supergirl. Both of the most recently revealed characters were shown off with brief gameplay demonstrations as found as the official Injustice 2 trailer below.

While many would consider the inclusion of Wonder Woman and Blue Beetle exciting enough, as fans had been frenetically petitioning for the latter to be added since the start, the Comic-Con panel also brought news that the Injustice comics writer Tom Taylor would be returning to write the new game in the franchise. Plus, although it wasn't an exact confirmation, Boon made sure to mention that a PC port for the game is "likely."

In the coming weeks and months, NetherRealm Studios will undoubtedly continue to reveal more of Injustice 2's character list, with future announcements potentially including someone from the Mortal Kombat universe. However, even he was the most downloaded DLC character in the first entry in the series, Boon stated that "it likely won't be Scorpion again."

Back in June, Ed Boon declared that he and his team intend to take a "more aggressive" approach when it comes to DLC for Injustice 2. Of course, such news wasn't too surprising for fans of the original, as they expected additional post-launch content from the sequel, seeing as how NetherRealm Studios kept the first Injustice decently stocked with extra materials after its release. However, it remains to be seen if other fan-favorite characters from the DC and Mortal Kombat stables will make their way into the game as DLC, with some players hoping for the likes of Swamp Thing and Noob Saibot to become available at some point.

Whatever the case may be concerning the rest of Injustice 2's characters, with the game having only been public knowledge for roughly two months, there's still plenty more that's yet to be divulged. While NetherRealm Studios has detailed some plans on incorporating loot drops and costume gear that changes stats, Injustice 2's developers will surely be unveiling more heroes, villains, stages, and brutal gameplay leading up to its launch.

Injustice 2 is set to release sometime in 2017, and is currently expected to launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
