Injustice 2 gets a new trailer that reveals the big bad behind the sequel’s conflict and introduces a handful of new characters; including Bane and Poison Ivy.
Fans of NetherRealm fighting games are well aware that the developer loves to slowly tease out the full roster of fighters in the months leading up to a new game’s reveal. It took months for the full Mortal Kombat X roster to be filled out and it looks like DC fans are in for the same torture with Injustice 2’s lineup.
The next handful of Injustice 2 characters seem to have been revealed in the new cinematic trailer. The ‘Lines Are Redrawn’ cinematic picks up right where the first Injustice left off. Batman’s regime has defeat the tyrannical Superman and the Kryptonian is in chains. Injustice 2 seems to kick off with the superhero (and villain) community divided on what steps to take next. As fans of the franchise might expect, lots of punching ensues.
This trailer seems to reveal that Brainiac is the villain pulling the strings this time around. In addition to Brainiac looming in the shadows, the trailer also reveals Bane and Poison Ivy, adding to the number of villains (including Harley and Deadshot) who will be joining the brawl this time around. Have a look at the cinematic trailer to see what other heroes and villains make an appearance…
Keened-eyed viewers will spot the glowing Brainiac head-ship behind Supergirl. This could suggest that in this timeline, Supergirl was sent to Earth by the villain himself, rather than by her own parents. More details about Supergirl’s motivation and the rest of the plot will likely be revealed in the coming months leading up to the May release.
Although fighting games aren’t always known for their stories, the latest NetherRealm games have definitely been delivering on that front. Injustice was a very interesting take on the hero versus hero archetype and even spawned some popular comic book tie-ins.
The developers have promised that Injustice 2 will have a lengthly roster and DLC characters after launch, so check back for more updates throughout the winter and spring.

Injustice 2 is set to be released on May 16, 2017, with the only confirmed platforms so far being PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
