Earlier this year Injustice 2 director Ed Boon teased a DLC character that was unlike anything that developer NetherRealm Studios has ever created. Now we know what he meant by that. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are joining the Injustice 2 roster as the final DLC character. Yes, all four turtles count as a single fighter.

The full Injustice 2 Fighter Pack 3 DLC roster was revealed at the tail end of a recent tournament for the game, but only as part of a cinematic trailer. No footage was shown of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in action, nor was a date given for their release. All we know at this point is that the Turtles will fight as one, which is likely to make for some chaotic matches.

NetherRealm has done some interesting things with fighters in the past, but the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is easily the studio’s most ambitious addition. If this were Mortal Kombat X, we might see each Turtle appear as a different variation, however Injustice 2 uses a more traditional character selection set-up. That’s all to say that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are an interesting addition from numerous perspectives, most notably their popularity in pop culture and the fact that it’s four characters fighting as one.

While the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are now the focal point of Fighter Pack 3, they are not the only DLC fighters joining Injustice 2. We already knew that The Atom was on the way, but the new trailer also confirmed Enchantress as the third piece of the DLC puzzle. She will presumably arrive after The Atom, who is set for early access on December 12th.

With Fighter Pack 3, NetherRealm seems to be hitting all of the notes that Injustice 2 players have come to expect. There is a character from the DC TV universe, a DC movie character, and a completely unexpected guest star (in this case, stars). All three have the potential to offer something unique to Injustice 2 players, but whether or not they will compete with the likes of Deadshot or Black Adam is unclear.

Injustice 2 is out now for PS4 and Xbox One. The PC version releases on November 14th. The Atom will be available for Early Access on December 12th.
