NetherRealm Studios had a surprise for viewers of the DC All Access live broadcast at San Diego Comic Convention today, debuting the first Injustice 2 trailer for DLC fighter Starfire. Starfire's been on the docket for release for some time now, being one of the first three DLC characters to be unveiled along with Red Hood and Sub-Zero. Yet while Red Hood and Sub-Zero have been been launched, Starfire's been left waiting for her time to shine. SDCC was that opportunity.

Starfire will join in on the events of Injustice 2 as a result of, spoiler warning, the death of Dick Grayson. The Injustice series gives free reign to its creative team to kill heroes that would never be allowed to die within the main DC universe, and Dick Grayson was unfortunately used as a plot device to drive a wedge between Batman and his son Damien Wayne, who killed Dick Grayson. Starfire, once romantically involved with Grayson, has apparently decided its time to get involved.

According to the trailer, Starfire will launch across all platforms this August, which shouldn't be too much of a surprise. NetherRealm is following an impressive schedule, following the mid-May launch of Injustice 2 with Red Hood's mid-June release, then Sub-Zero in mid-July. The only conclusion is that Starfire is likely to launch mid-August on a Tuesday, just like her predecessors. Previous pricing for DLC has run at $5.99 for character, though there's a $19.99 pack with all three and some skins.

Starfire's official unveiling puts to bed, or at least temporarily staves off, rumors regarding another Injustice 2 DLC character that's had his name in headlines recently due to a series of leaks. Black Manta, one of Aquaman's greatest villains, is potentially on the verge of being announced. The multiple recent leaks even led to stirrings as to whether he'd be given priority over Starfire, as she's been missing in action for some time now. Put that rumor to bed, but don't be surprised if Black Manta is revealed soon too.

Injustice 2's Fighter Pack 1 will be complete with the release of Starfire, finishing the first set of three DLC characters. That leaves six remaining  confirmed DLC characters in Injustice 2's life-span, though NetherRealm could always release more depending on success. Those six will of course be split between Fighter Pack 1 and Fighter Pack 2. Rumored characters for those packs currently include Black Manta and Mortal Kombat's Raiden with some certainty. Other less certain characters could be Constantine, Azrael, Mera, and Atom.

Stay tuned for more information on Injustice 2's DLC characters and other NetherRealm plans later this year.

Injustice 2 is available now on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
