The console version of Injustice 2 has managed to avoid much criticism for its use of loot boxes, unlike many other games that released in the past year. Like Overwatch, fans seem to be okay with the way Injustice 2 handles loot boxes (or Motherboxes as they're called in-game). However, the Injustice 2 mobile app has some microtransactions that would make even the most cynical mobile gamer do a double-take.

Right now, Injustice 2 players that use the game's mobile app can buy four 3-star heroes for their roster of fighters. The characters are Aquaman, Batman, Cyborg, and The Flash, with designs based on their appearance in the recently released Justice League film adaptation. Anyone hoping to add these characters to their roster of fighters in Injustice 2 will have to be willing to fork over a whopping $99.99.

The Justice League Ultimate Pack's $99.99 price tag is absurd, but it's not the only pricey item on the game's store. Players can buy the Multiverse Supergirl 4 Star Pack for $49.99. This pack is based on the Supergirl CW TV series, and comes with Supergirl and a number of level 20 customization items as well.

The fact that Injustice 2 has microtransactions isn't an issue in and of itself. After all, the game is completely free to play, and features more polish than most other mobile fighting games on the market. The app's visuals are especially impressive, and show that a lot of care went into translating the Injustice 2 experience to mobile devices.

Even so, $99.99 for four heroes in a mobile fighting game is laughable. For comparison, players can buy all three Fighter Packs in the console game for just $60 total. This would get them special guest characters like Hellboy and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, in addition to more DC Comics characters and Mortal Kombat combatants.

Considering this, it's hard to see how the Injustice 2 mobile app justifies the $99.99 price tag for just four heroes. Perhaps the price for the pack will come down if enough fans complain, or maybe NetherRealm is counting on just a small number of players - typically referred to as "whales" - to shell out the cash for the insanely expensive DLC.

Injustice 2 is available now for iOS and Android mobile devices, as well as PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
