Following a recent gameplay footage leak depicting the Clown Prince of Crime on the receiving end of a beat down by The Flash, NetherRealm Studios has finally unveiled an official trailer that introduces the move set for Batman's arch-nemesis, The Joker. As one would expect from the Jester of Genocide, the DC villain's combat traits err on the side of black humor, as practically all of his abilities are couched within various corn-pone gags that have a decidedly deadly twist.

As seen below in the trailer from NetherRealm Studios, The Joker trades verbal barbs with Damien Wayne before they battle, as their conversation alludes to the grim fate of a previous Robin, Jason Todd, of whom the villain once beat to a pulp and left for dead. As the fight ensues, the Joker shows why Injustice 2's developers decided to include him as the last reveal for the roster, as he unleashes a deceptively speedy flurry of close-range crowbar and knife combo attacks, long distance venom and gas bombs, and a super move that's quite literally electrifying.

With The Joker having been previously killed by Superman, it will be interesting to see how NetherRealm Studios will incorporate the villain's presence into Injustice 2's story mode, if he actually influences the narrative at all. Of course, since he was the one who destroyed Metropolis in Injustice: Gods Among Us and set the events in motion that fomented hatred between Superman and Batman, it would only make sense for him to at least be referenced in the sequel's plot.

Interestingly enough, prior to Injustice 2's official reveal of The Joker, fans had been furiously speculating about the villain's inclusion in the fighting game's roster, despite NetherRealm Studios being radio silent on the matter. Nevertheless, theories of his addition to the title were practically solidified after the leaking of an achievement list pointed to different character-specific achievements involving Joker being on the offensive and defensive against Batman and Harley Quinn.

Bearing all of this in mind, with The Joker cinching the last slot for Injustice 2's base game roster, fans' excitement for the title is sure to reach a fever pitch soon enough, as the title is set to release in a little less than a month from now. With this being the case, it's quite likely that fans will reignite their conjecture as to which heroes and villains will eventually be added as DLC once Injustice 2 goes live.

Injustice 2 is set to release on May 16, 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
