Hopefully, folks haven’t gotten too burnt out on the Injustice 2 hype quite yet. NetherRealm has been pumping out character trailers for nearly all of the game’s roster in anticipation of its upcoming May release, which has made Injustice 2 a regular part of gaming news every week for months. Yesterday, the studio provided a peek at The Flash, whose character trailer dropped this morning.
The newest video shows The Flash facing off against Gorilla Grodd with a mix of super speed and wisecracks. There is a nice preview here of the character’s moves, many of which feature Flash’s signature abilities. Judging by the footage, opponents will have to be quick on their feet – or buttons – to be able to best the speedster. The Flash has a very entertaining super ability that makes use of those handy time-traveling skills he’s picked up and somehow elicits sympathy for a T-Rex who was just trying to eat in peace.
The Flash will be returning to Injustice 2 alongside a lot of familiar faces, and a few new ones that didn’t quite make the cut for the first game. The two most recent characters revealed to be joining the fight are Catwoman, a returning character, and Captain Cold, a newcomer who has powers akin to Sub-Zero, but with more limited range.
The heroes and villains will be battling it out once again in the darker alternate DC universe where Superman isn’t acting very super. The overarching narrative has been summed up in additional ‘Shattered Alliances’ story trailers – the fourth of which released just a few days ago.
Now that The Flash is confirmed and his moves laid out, fans can now get back to speculating on who will be announced next. The roster continually grows and is already larger than the original, which means Injustice 2 will be bringing a more to the table this time.
Beyond playable characters, NetherRealm is also adding a new feature that some fans are none too pleased about: microtransations. The studio has stressed that purchasable items are purely for cosmetic items and faster leveling, and that those items will not afford players any advantages when it comes to gameplay.
Injustice 2 is set to release on May 16, 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
