Following the reveal of Injustice 2's Legendary Edition, many presumed that the DC Comics-inspired fighting game is now finished getting post-launch DLC, but that hasn't stopped fans from clamoring for the title to receive even more characters. As a matter of fact, some fans of the sequel recently asked NetherRealm Studios' Ed Boon for additional content, which led to the company's creative director potentially teasing that another Mortal Kombat is on the way instead.

As seen in the tweet below from Boon's official Twitter account, one user simply stated that "it would be cool" if Injustice 2 got a fourth Fighter Pack this year, despite all signs pointing to more expansion materials not being on the way. The NetherRealm Studios' creative director then responded to say, "You know what ELSE would be kool.....?" with the question and spelling of the lattermost word possibly indicating that another Mortal Kombat is in the works.

While there's no doubt that many Mortal Kombat fans would love to see a new sequel in the long-running fighting game franchise, it's important to note the notorious troll-like nature that Boon typically takes when tweeting at fans. For instance, in our interview with the NetherRealm Studios creative director, he mentioned how "entertaining" it is to be accused of trolling, as he's oftem very active on Twitter and engages with gamers in myriad ways through the social media platform.

So, taking all of this into account, Boon's comment in question could go either way when it comes to there being another Mortal Kombat title in development, especially since he posted a followup tweet almost immediately thereafter acknowledging his status of being an online trickster. Nevertheless, with three years having passed since the launch of MK X, there is a chance that we could be getting some fresh fatalities at some point in the near future.

Injustice 2 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
