NetherRealm Studios reschedules this week’s original character reveal date for its forthcoming fighting game, Injustice 2, pushing the unveiling back until next week.

Several days ago, the video game developer NetherRealm Studios promised it would have a new Injustice 2 character reveal ready for February 7, 2017, which was just prior to today. However, since the company failed to provide any assets to promote the inclusion of a fresh fighter to the game’s roster yesterday, NetherRealm Studios has decided to reschedule the character’s reveal until next week, with the Injustice 2 hero or villain set to be unveiled on February 13, 2017.

As has been the case in the past with some of NetherRealm Studios’ character reveals for Injustice 2, the developer continues to use an image containing a generic polygonal framework of the potential fighter as a placeholder, with the date of their reveal emblazoned across the front. In the days leading up to premiering heroes or villains as playable figures in Injustice 2, NetherRealm Studios posts a version of the image seen below on the game’s official website.

Since NetherRealm Studios failed to follow through on its original announcement to show off a new character for Injustice 2 this week, a representative from the company took to the game’s Twitter account to apologize to anyone who may be upset by the situation. The tweet in full reads, “Hello! The character reveal will happen next week on February 13. We apologize for any confusion this has caused!”

For those unaware, the last major character revealed for Injustice 2 was Black Canary, as the DC hero was given a debut by way of a gameplay trailer featuring her trademark “Canary Cry” scream, as well as her speedy maneuverability and multitude of grappling attacks during combat. Just prior to her reveal, NetherRealm Studios released footage that gave a decent portion of screen time to the villains Bane, Poison Ivy, and Brainiac, which confirmed their inclusion on the game’s roster.

All things considered, while this setback will likely disappoint some Injustice 2 fans, as they were surely excited to find who else NetherRealm Studios will put in the game, should the reasoning behind the rescheduled date be due to technical issues, then it’s best for everyone to simply wait until next week to show off the fighter and not rush them out in a mess. Considering the fact that many believe Injustice 2 to be one of the most anticipated video games of 2017, NetherRealm Studios would do well to take its time when it comes to the creation and refinement of the characters for the next entry in its DC-inspired fighting game series.

Injustice 2 is set to release on May 16, 2017 for Android and iOS devices, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
