NetherRealm Studios has updated the official Injustice 2 website with the date of the next planned character reveal. Expect the roster update to happen on March 2, just several days from now. The reveal will feature the twenty-first DC Comics hero or villain on Injustice 2‘s roster, which according to the game’s website could ultimately be as large as forty characters. With NetherRealm dropping new characters via Twitter, trailer, livestream and so on in the past, it’ll be interesting to see how 21 debuts.
Rumors continue to swirl as to what characters will be announced next. Cyborg stands as the most recently announced character, but anyone could be next. The now infamous leaked Injustice 2 roster still remains accurate, to the disappointment of fans who enjoy the week-by-week surprise of a new reveal. But perhaps this week will be the first to shift away from the leaks and surprise us. Denying that the roster hasn’t been true so far won’t get us anywhere, though. So here’s the major rumored characters potentially fully announced soon:
- Mr. Freeze
- Captain Cold
- Doctor Fate
- Green Arrow
- Black Adam
- Power Girl
Of course, those are only 10 rumored characters. If the 40 slots listed on the official website are accurate, then there are plenty of unknown characters left to reveal. And that’s not even touching on the DLC possibilities, including DLC characters like the pre-order exclusive Darkseid. And 40 might not even be accurate — initially there were only 31 slots on the website.
At this point, NetherRealm’s best option is to remain ambiguous about Injustice 2‘s total roster size. As of now, all NetherRealm has said is that Injustice 2 has the largest roster of any fighting game from the studio yet. That means that the roster is at least 26 characters big. The studio also confirmed a staggering 9 DLC characters would come with the Ultimate Edition of the Injustice 2, though likely not at launch.
Everyone’s going to be disappointed that one character or another didn’t ultimately make the roster. It’s the nature of fighting game sequels to make hard cuts and try out new things. So long as NetherRealm continues to make the Injustice 2 reveals fun, through, everyone should be mostly content. Mostly.
Injustice 2 releases on May 16 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
