Though he was finally featured in a villain specific Injustice 2 trailer last week, NetherRealm Studios finally released Captain Cold's standalone trailer, showing off a little more gameplay for the long time Flash arch-rival. In addition to the arrival of a live stream dedicated to him as well, the trailer is full of icy cold gameplay, flashy moves, and unfortunately a serious lack of iconic ice puns.
Armed with a cold gun, Captain Cold has access to a number of moves that can freeze his enemy, including a three hit combo then ends with a big kick. Cold has a number of trap abilities as well, so his combos tend to end with the enemy being pushed away. The Injustice 2 trailer shows off a move where he shoots an ice patch on the ground, causing an enemy to instantly freeze upon touching it. In addition, this interesting looking blue bubble, or frozen field is also placed, and while his opponent never touches it, it allows Cold to create and drop an ice block on his foe standing on the other side of it.
In addition to being able to create small ice constructs like a wall and a platform to jump off of, his super ability has him shooting a large ice stream at his opponent which then transforms the stage into a blizzard. As he slides his way around the frozen foe, Cold fires off multiple shots before creating a massive ice block and stomping it down on top of his opponent.
In terms of his motivation, it seems that Superman's brutal dictatorship made an oath to eradicate crime. With a brutal campaign against those it saw as a threat, his authoritarian group known as the Regime rounded up and executed every member of Captain Cold's old crew and sister. Of course, this didn't sit well with Leonard Snart, who vowed revenge by joining a new group known as The Society. While there's still not too much known about this new group, characters like Poison Ivy, Bane, and Gorilla Grodd are part of this team.
With just over a month and a half remaining until launch, NetherRealm Studios still has a bunch of characters yet to reveal and has recently promised to show off a few upcoming DLC characters closer to launch as well. With only a few day one roster spots left, many folks continue to wonder which of their favorite DC characters, such as Red Hood, will ultimately make the cut.
What do you think of Captain Cold's trailer? Who else are you hoping to see added to the roster at launch? Let us know in the comments.
