The latest Shattered Alliances trailer for Injustice 2 features a brand new threat coming to Earth. As if our heroes didn't already have enough on their plate, Brainiac has arrived from a trip through the cosmos to wipe out the remaining Kryoponians and use the planet for scrap. Things are looking grim.
When the Injustice 2 trailer beings, you might be forgiven for thinking it's an advert for Mass Effect, given the Reaper-esque ships that descend onto Earth. The giant heads with tentacles, however, are all classic Brainiac.
The latest Injustice 2 trailer appropriately sets up a sense of dread. It appears like a whole new heap of trouble is heading to Earth and only the Kryptonians know the full extent of what Brainiac is capable of. Unfortunately, the super roster is lacking with Superman turning bad guy and all. That might change, however, as the trailer suggests Superman might finally get the super stick out of his posterior and help out the fractured league combat this new threat.
The trailer focuses more on the story surrounding Brainiac as opposed to the character's moves, although it certainly shows brief moments of him in combat. It shouldn't come as a surprise if NetherRealm releases another Brainiac focused video highlighting his abilities, including the character's super move. The studio has steadily released a plethora of character specific trailers in anticipation for the game's release. Poison Ivy got her own trailer a few days ago.
This development is just another scoop of evil on the villain sundae. The heroes are still reeling from the events from the first Injustice, and a whole new slew of evildoers have recently been flooding the scene. Each Shattered Alliance trailer has consistently upped the stakes, with the fourth and most recent trailer highlighting the assembling of an anti-Justice League called the Society created by Gorilla Grodd.
In other Injustice 2 news, the closed beta for the game has ended, but there is no word on whether an open beta is on its way. Though, with the release just a month away that is doubtful. The game was also confirmed to include microtransations. Although, the currency available will only go toward the purchases of cosmetic items and nothing that will be advantageous in gameplay.
Injustice 2 is set to release on May 16, 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
