The Xbox One marketplace is at it again, leaking a photo of an upcoming Injustice 2 DLC character that had yet to be announced. Black Manta, while not a surprise to most Injustice 2 players who follow along with the game’s teasers, will apparently be the first DLC release post-DLC Fighter Pack 1. That’s just an assumption, however, as Fighter Pack 1’s final character has yet to be released. Poor Starfire hasn’t even had a release date announced just yet.
As mentioned, the image of the Black Manta ad was accidentally published to the Xbox One marketplace. The marketplace cycles through dozens of advertisements, so someone simply must have pushed the Injustice 2 ad through much earlier than expected. The ad doesn’t show Black Manta himself, oddly showing Batman and Flash instead, but the text of the advertisement reads, “Fight as Black Manta in Injustice 2.” No room for interpretation there.
Black Manta, as mentioned, is not a surprising inclusion. Ed Boon, Director of Injustice 2, had previously teased the first nine DLC characters for the game. The first three were shown to be Starfire, Red Hood, and Mortal Kombat‘s Sub-Zero. The remaining six characters were only shown via shadowy outline. Some of those characters, given their unique physical attributes, were easy to hammer down. Black Manta, with his giant helmet and tubes, was one that people figured out immediately. The question remained as to when he’d arrive, though.
As of right now, two of the three DLC characters from Fighter Pack 1 have been released. Sub-Zero and Red Hood are in the game, but Starfire’s release date remains a mystery. That means that no matter whether Black Manta is confirmed or not, he’ll have to wait for Starfire to launch before his turn up at bat. He’ll likely be featured in a DLC pack of his own with two other fighters, which may or may not be prioritized over him as well.
There is one wrench in these gears, however. It’s that Ed Boon is known for his surprises when it comes to DLC releases. For example, in the last Mortal Kombat game he surprised everyone by announcing the Alien character instead of Baraka. While unlikely, since Black Manta is a highly anticipated character, Ed boon could surprise us in one way or another.
Injustice 2 is available now on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Stay tuned for more information on Starfire, Black Manta, and other forthcoming DLC for DC Comics’ fight title.
