Injustice 2 creative director and NetherRealm Studios head, Ed Boon, posts a cryptic tweet which potentially hints at an upcoming beta test for the super hero fighting game.

As fans are well aware, NetherRealm studio head, Ed Boon, is a person that enjoys trolling and teasing the gaming community through his social media channels. His typically cryptic tweets reached a new high through the release of Mortal Kombat X where Boon would constantly tease fans about a certain purple ninja, or hinting about new features and DLC prior to their announcements. Just last year, he even updated his Twitter picture to an I2, which many fans quickly picked up on as representing the yet unannounced Injustice 2.  With a new game coming out in a few months and a fan base that’s eager for more information, Boon appears to be at it again.

[Updated: It looks like this one is no longer just speculation as Ed Boon confirmed that an online beta is coming soon. Players can start signing up right now.]

The Injustice 2 creative director posted a new image on his personal Twitter account earlier today showing a string of characters on a black background. The image was paired with an odd message saying that he felt like there is something was missing today.

While the Tweet may look innocent and a bit odd at first, players have already figured out the message. The Tweet depicts the Greek alphabet starting with the character for alpha and going through all the way to theta. By taking Boon’s message into context, the character for beta is missing from the string of characters. While nothing is confirmed, could this be a reference to a potential beta test before the launch of Injustice 2?

Don't know why, but I can't help feeling like there is something missing today....— Ed Boon (@noobde) January 19, 2017

Considering the myriad of online issues previous NetherRealm games have experienced in the past, this could be one way that the studio is making sure that its net code is rock solid prior to launch. Last year, Mortal Kombat X received a beta to test out online enhancements which ultimately went a long way into improving the experience for end users once the XL edition released.

After a couple of months of radio silence, NetherRealm Studios seems poised to finally reveal more about the upcoming super hero fighting game. Earlier this week, a brand new CG trailer not only detailed part of the story and where certain heroes are after the events of the first game, but also it revealed a number of previously unannounced characters as well, such as Poison Ivy, Bane, Robin, and Brainiac. While nothing is yet confirmed, it looks as though Brainiac may be the ultimate villain this time around as he pulls the strings from behind the scenes.

Premium versions of Injustice 2 were also announced towards the end of the trailer. Players willing to spend a little more will have access to nine future downloadable content fighters, premier skins for Supergirl, Green Lantern, and Flash, along with other digital goodies.
