Earlier today, Infinity Ward, the studio that started the blockbuster Call of Duty franchise, was evacuated following a bomb threat. According to reports, Los Angeles police arrived at Infinity Ward and successfully evacuated all of the studio's employees.

It has yet to be determined who issued the bomb threat, but it's worth mentioning that this threat comes at a time where companies across the United States are being evacuated for similar threats. A Bitcoin e-mail scam, attempting to ransom $20,000 worth of virtual currency out of the organizations being threatened, is possibly to blame for these widespread incidents.

While it's possible the bomb threat at Infinity Ward is a unique situation, it seems likely that the studio is also a victim of the Bitcoin e-mail threats. There have been times where game developers have been singled out and targeted by bomb threats, but that doesn't appear to be the case in this particular instance. However, the Los Angeles Police Department is still investigating the matter and looking into the credibility of the bomb threat at the time of this writing.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered negative reviews Steam

If the Infinity Ward bomb threat and all the other bomb threats across the United States are linked to the Bitcoin e-mail scam as some believe, it will be interesting to see what comes from it. Hopefully authorities are able to track down the perpetrator or perpetrators behind the bomb threats, as they are making police waste time and resources investigating potentially fake bomb threats.

The people issuing the bomb threats are also disrupting the days of the companies that they've threatened. In Infinity Ward's case, the studio is likely working on 2019's entry in the Call of Duty franchise, which is rumored to be a next-generation FPS, and so it's easy to see how the development team may be frustrated by something like this interrupting their work.

We will update this article once more information on the bomb threat at Infinity Ward becomes available.
