Although most of Sony’s E3 2014 press conference was dedicated to the future of the PS4, the company wasn’t afraid to acknowledge the handful of titles that have established the console’s initial library. It may not have been a launch-day release but inFAMOUS: Second Son, for a lot of people, was the first must-have game for the PS4, and its first piece of standalone DLC is on the way.
In the DLC, titled ‘First Light’, players will learn more about the character of Fetch who, in Second Son, is capable of controlling the power of neon. As players of inFAMOUS know, Fetch’s story is somewhat tragic, but the game chooses to expand on her past in short bursts.
First Light, however, will put Fetch front and center, giving players a new protagonist to get to know, and (presumably) a new set of moves to work with. Obviously, not completely new, but from the looks of the First Light teaser trailer (seen above) it seems like Twitch’s grasp of neon extends much further than Delsin’s.
It also appears that First Light will delve into Fetch’s time at Curden Cay, the prison that houses some of the inFAMOUS: Second Son universe’s most dangerous conduits. Curden Cay also happens to be run by Augustine, the villain of Second Son, and a character who may also factor into First Light’s storyline as well.
While brief, the first trailer for inFAMOUS: Second Son‘s DLC does enough to pique players’ interests with the promise of new narrative twists and turns — in the form of a prequel story — but some might be disappointed that developer Sucker Punch didn’t opt for an expansion that introduces a new power or a new character. We know that the developer had ideas for other conduit powers, like wire and glass powers, but those will likely be saved for a sequel.
And, admittedly, Fetch is one of the stronger and more interesting characters in Second Son‘s narrative. So it will be interesting to see how Sucker Punch expands on those details we already know about the character’s past, and how they introduce new gameplay opportunities into the DLC. Anything that gives us a reason to jump back into that world is exciting enough.
What do you think of inFAMOUS: Second Son‘s first DLC story expansion? What would you like to know about Fetch’s past?
inFAMOUS: First Light is slated to release as standalone content this August for PS4.
