Infamous Second Son Character Art

Things certainly have been hotting up on the inFAMOUS: Second Son front lately. With accolades in abundance, single-player reigning supreme and a morality tree daubed in several shades of gray, it's no wonder this PS4-exclusive sequel has been named one of Game Rant's most anticipated titles of 2014.

With its March 21 release now less than two months away, fans of inFAMOUS: Second Son can expect Sony and Sucker Punch to turn up the current, overload conduits and deliver all kinds of content. The latest blast of info appears in the form of 5 new character art shots, detailing everyone from beany-clad protagonist Delsin, to the oppressive powers of the DUP.

First up is Reggie Rowe, Seattle city police officer and Delsin's big brother. Performed and voiced by actor Travis Willingham, Reggie regularly provides wise counsel to his street-smart sibling. Despite frequent admonishments and arrests the brother's familial relationship is described as providing the "very core of the [inFAMOUS] story."

The 'second son' in Second Son, Delsin stars as the protagonist of this latest inFAMOUS outing. Played by Troy Baker, Rowe's adventures begin after encountering a fellow conduit during a bus crash, an event that ultimately awakens his own latent abilities. Unlike most conduits, Delsin can absorb the powers of others.

An early target of Delsin's 'mimicry' skills, Abigail Walker commands the power to manipulate neon energy. Nicknamed 'Fetch,' the character - as portrayed by actress Laura Bailey - presents an initial obstacle to the Rowe brothers, who disagree on how to deal with the presumed 'Bioterrorist.'

The final two images highlight the heavily armored troops of the Department of Unified Protection or 'DUP.' Following the calamitous events of inFAMOUS 2, in which the major industrial hub of Empire City is destroyed, these hulking 'peacekeepers' are brought in to regulate and react to further 'bioterrorist' aggressions. Like all faceless oppressors their real agenda is said to be somewhat less-than-selfless.

Given what we know about Second Son's major players it's safe to assume both 'Fetch' and Delsin will eventually team up to take down the evil DUP. The same goes for Reggie, whose obvious commitment to justice will likely bring him into conflict with the faceless forces of tyranny. With Sucker Punch promising to mix up the main storyline in accordance with the player's own choices, we can only hope that the studio throws in a few extra curveballs to keep this tale of super powered rebellion feeling fresh.

How important are the elements of character and narrative to the inFAMOUS franchise? How does Delsin's design stack up against previous protagonist Cole MacGrath? Is strong storytelling even necessary in the superpowered sandbox? Let us know in the comments below, and be sure to check in with all of the latest PlayStation 4 news, right here on Game Rant.
