The action-packed third-person sub-genre has recently become one of the most prevalent among players in the gaming industry, and it doesn't look like slowing down either. Titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, Elden Ring, and the highly-rumored Grand Theft Auto 6 are three of the most highly anticipated titles for the new wave of next-generation consoles. However, amidst the swarm of multi-billion-dollar mega-franchises, one indie game developer has thrown a disembodied hand with a big gun into the ring, taking the internet by the storm in the process.

In short, 2021's lineup of indie games has certainly put up a good fight against the ever-so-lucrative AAA games. As the year soon comes to an end, gamers have had the incredible opportunity to explore many independently produced titles that span numerous genres like adventure, narrative, RPG, and now, literal hand-gunning stealth-action, as the bizarre in-development game "Handcop" is said to hopefully join the indie-gaming scene sometime in the future.

For the uninitiated, Handcop is a very unusual yet uncommonly captivating shooter currently being developed by one-man team Jeff Ramos; a Brazilian game developer. Instead of famous console-selling mascots such as Crash Bandicoot, gamers will take command of a decapitated anthropomorphic human hand who can blast away, dash towards or straight up execute attacking opponents in a growing combat system. But that's not all, as Ramos revealed in an interview with IGN that stealth gameplay will also feature, as the titular protagonist's small size can fit through cramped locations and can scale thin power lines.

Although work on the charming hand-gunner started from at least February 2021, Handcop has only recently snagged Reddit's attention when a gif posted with the humorous caption, "Too lazy to animate the whole body." Since then, Handcop's driving hard-boiled police action-hero Michael McWrist has amassed over 100,000 upvotes and overwhelming acclaim on the incredibly popular subReddit r/gaming. On top of the appreciation, countless comments from users call for a fully-fledged adventure to be made of McWrist, which Ramos has assuringly confirmed that Handcop is going to happen and that the project is not a gag or meme.

In the last few years, the Indie game market has created many original, new experiences such as Cuphead, Hollow Knight, and Sable. All of this stunning content delivered by small, passionate teams proves that the industry is ready for anybody wanting to make their mark with whatever concept AAA companies are afraid to pursue.

Handcop is currently in development.
