The Walt Disney Company and Marvel Studios recently announced delays in several projects and among the long list was the next installment in the Indiana Jones franchise. While fans were reacting to the delays, behind-the-scenes photos of the upcoming film, starring Harrison Ford and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, surfaced on the internet.

The much-awaited Indiana Jones 5 has been in the works for a long time. The last installment in the franchise, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, was released in 2008 and fans are excited to see Ford return to play the enigmatic character. This was obvious when the pictures from the set of Indiana Jones 5 were being shared by multiple Twitter users.

The latest batch of behind-the-scenes photos, first shared by JustJared.com, show Ford and Waller-Bridge filming on location in Italy. While it was confirmed earlier that Waller-Bridge is in Indiana Jones 5, her role is still a mystery, with producers keeping mum about her involvement. These images are the first time that she has been spotted on set alongside Ford. Antonio Banderas was also present, though a clear image of him does not seem to be included in the photo gallery.

Indiana Jones 5 went into production earlier this year, but the team faced unexpected delays after Ford was injured during filming. He sustained a shoulder injury while rehearsing a fight scene for the film. It was initially assumed that his absence from the set would not affect the release date of the project, as director James Mangold had planned to adjust the filming schedule. Scenes that Ford wasn’t a part of were being shot while he underwent treatment.

Unfortunately, it was announced that the Disney and Lucasfilm project has been pushed back by a whole year. Indiana Jones 5 now has a new release date of June 2023, when it was previously slated for a July 28th, 2022, premiere. This left fans of the franchise feeling disappointed, with many of them sharing their feelings on social media.

There is no confirmation, however, that Ford's injury had anything to do with the delay. Disney announced a reshuffle to its entire release calendar for the years 2022 and 2023, which includes many of the big films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The list comprises Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, The Marvels, and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.

Indiana Jones 5 is scheduled to premiere in theaters on June 30, 2023.
