Ubisoft has revealed that those who purchase a copy of Immortals Fenyx Rising on both PS4 and Xbox One will be able to upgrade to next-gen versions of the game at no additional cost.

Part of the many announcements in the second Ubisoft Forward earlier this week, the Immortals Fenyx Rising upgrade path to next-gen consoles will work like Ubisoft's other cross-gen games, Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion.

At the Ubisoft event Immortals Fenyx Rising received a new trailer showcasing new characters, mechanics, and the central plot of the game. The trailer had an odd tone featuring the classic James Brown song Ants in my Pants, with the main character fighting various enemies. Combat in the game is said to be a mix between Assassins Creed: Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, with incredible depth with its gear system and gameplay mechanics akin to Ubisoft's mega-hit of 2018.

The influence on the aesthetic of Immortals Fenyx Rising has been clear since its unveiling at E3 2019. Influenced by Nintendo's open-world hit The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the game features colorful landscapes, obtuse characters, and a lighter overall vibe. The comparisons don't stop there however as players are able to climb mountains and buildings during the adventure and when dodging attacks in combat, time will slow down time giving the player the opportunity to counterattack.

Along with the trailer and gameplay reveal, Ubisoft announced a special demo of Immortals Fenys Rising exclusive to Google Stadia. The streaming platform will be the sole provider of the demo which will be made available before the game's official release date in December. While not much is known about the demo, Ubisoft has promised more information would be revealed soon.

Earlier this year, Immortals Fenyx Rising received a name change from Gods and Monsters, puzzling many fans looking forward to the upcoming game. Though the new game title refers to the playable character, the name change seemed incredibly out of the blue, especially given how close the game is to releasing.

Some had assumed the reason for the name change was a trademark dispute Ubisoft had with Monster Energy during Ubisoft's attempt to obtain the trademark for the name Gods and Monsters. Monster Energy claimed the name was too similar to the company's branding and would cause brand confusion between the two, which Ubisoft attempted to dispute. However, it was apparently a product of the development overhaul.

Ubisoft has quite a busy fall up ahead. In addition to Immortals Fenyx Rising, both Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion are scheduled to release before the end of the year. In addition, another Ubisoft Forward has been announced to showcase more games the Publisher has planned for the remainder of 2020 and beyond.

Immortals Fenyx Rising will release December 3 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
