Greek mythology has been enjoying a resurgence in popular culture as of late. Video games like Supergiant Games' Hades, a favorite contender at The Game Awards 2020, and Ubisoft's Immortals Fenyx Rising both tackled the mythos last year, as did the Netflix animated series Blood of Zeus. Now, Immortals Fenyx Rising and Blood of Zeus are coming together to offer fans of the open-world RPG more cosmetics for their demigod hero.

Immortals Fenyx Rising has hosted other collaborations even before it released last December, with Ubisoft releasing an Adventure Time crossover trailer in November 2020 to push the game's fantasy-adventure setting, the Golden Isle. However, Blood of Zeus, which was created by Charles and Vlas Parlapanides and debuted its first season on the streaming service in October 2020, makes much more sense as a thematic partner for Immortals given they both star demigods tasked with stopping malevolent forces.

A new quest called "A Tribute to Family" is available between now and January 28 in Immortals Fenyx Rising, according to Ubisoft. It tasks players with defeating two mythical creatures from Blood of Zeus on behalf of a ghost in the Hall of Gods. For completing the quest, players can receive an Eagle pendant and customization options, though the blog post detailing this crossover does not specify what is on offer here versus the in-game store.

That being said, Ubisoft lays out two packs that can be purchased by players even after the event ends on January 28: A weapon pack with skins for Fenyx's sword, axe, and bow; as well as a character pack with dark-toned "flair" for players' armor, helmet, wings, mount, and phoenix companion Phosphor. These new cosmetic options should offer players more interesting options to play around with, though there are already over a dozen alternate skin options for Phosphor by itself in the open-world game.

Beyond this Netflix crossover event, Immortals Fenyx Rising continues to grow in scale. Immortals launched a new update last week to prepare for its first major DLC expansion, "A New God," and the game has been a successful enough venture for Ubisoft thus far that it has two additional expansions planned through April 2021.

While many have compared the game to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, its unique niche covering Greek mythology has offered it one way to stand out - even in a year when Hades took much of the spotlight. Scoring a deal with the Netflix original series should be a boon for Immortals Fenyx Rising, and give fans something to do while waiting on the upcoming Blood of Zeus Season 2.

Immortals Fenyx Rising is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
