Only a month into 2021, the video game industry has seen impressive releases such as Hitman 3 and Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The Game Complete Edition. However, there are many more releases on the horizon, with many being highly anticipated. Online media database IMDB has released the results of a fan poll of the most anticipated video games of 2021 and some of the results may be surprising to fans.

Last year's IMDB poll for most anticipated video games for 2020 included Cyberpunk 2077 topping the list, with multiple Game Award winner The Last of Us Part 2 coming in second, Ghosts Of Tsushima coming in third, and Marvel's Avengers coming in fourth. While the anticipation for Cyberpunk 2077 and Marvel's Avengers were high, both games' releases were disappointing to many fans. Hopefully, the most anticipated games of 2021 based on the IMDB poll will live up to the hype.

This years poll featured 1,507 fan votes with one title taking a large percentage of the votes. PlayStation exclusive God of War: Ragnarok has been voted the most anticipated video game of 2021 with 360 votes. While not much is known about the sequel to the hit 2018 game God of War, the events within the title and a short teaser trailer have led to a lot of excitement for Ragnarok. While developer Santa Monica Studio has promised a 2021 release date, the lack of trailers or announcements could point to God of War: Ragnarok releasing later than expected.

Taking the second spot is another PlayStation exclusive, Horizon: Forbidden West, with 199 votes. As the sequel to Horizon: Zero Dawn, Forbidden West was announced in June 2020 with an extensive cinematic trailer, and is expected to release in Q3 or Q4 of 2021. Coming in at the third spot is the highly anticipated installment of the Far Cry series, Far Cry 6, with 115 votes.

Following the top three spots is Hogwarts Legacy at number four, Resident Evil Village at number five, and Diablo 4 at number six. While Hogwarts Legacy was just delayed to 2022 as of January 13, Resident Evil Village and Diablo 4 are still expected to release sometime this year. Surprisingly, the highly anticipated titles Gotham Knights, Halo Infinite, and The Lord of The Rings: Gollum, placed seventh, eighth, and ninth respectively.

Some of the even more surprising entries include Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart at 18th, which received positive fan reception for the announcement trailer and gameplay demo trailer. Other entries which ranked surprisingly low are The Medium, which only received five votes, and Returnal, which only received three votes.
