When it comes to protecting one’s iPad 2, there is the tough decision that must be made between going Apple or going third party. While both provide significant advantages, ultimately the decision boils down to price and functionality.
The iPad 2’s Smart Cover is a great way to protect the tablet, but it also leaves the backside vulnerable. To help give iPad 2 owners the best of both worlds, iFrogz has created the Summit Case, which not only delivers all the functionality of the smart cover but also the protection of a hard shell backing.
Essentially, the Summit Case is two cases in one: a front cover that uses Smart Technology to turn the iPad off and on when removed and replaced, and a harder back cover that will further protect the device from high altitude falls. Like the smart cover, all you need to do is pull back the front cover, and your iPad will unlock; it’s as simple as that.
Craftsmanship on the case is top notch, and there are a handful of colors to choose from to further personalize your iPad. Everything is available for handy access — from the charging port to the volume button — nothing suffers from the added protection or covering.
And, to make the deal even sweeter, the Summit Case also doubles as a handy stand by way of its detachable backing and handy 3-stage grooves. None of the protection is lost from the back, only now the iPad 2 is able to stand horizontally upright for viewing Netflix or even doing some mobile gaming.
All in all the Summit Case is exactly what I’d hoped the Smart Cover to be, but eventually wasn’t. The added rear protection helps me feel as if my device is protected front to back, and the horizontal stand functionality is the icing on the cake.
My only real complaint with the case is that it doesn’t allow for vertical standing of the iPad 2, which the Smart Cover does, and it feels a bit bulky for those who are concerned about that sort of thing.
Aside from that, though, there’s a handful of colors to choose from, and plenty of ways to benefit from using the Summit Case. At $59.99 it might not be for those who want to get the cheapest protection possible, but for a high-end device like an iPad, a mid-range price tag pales in comparison to peace of mind.
iPad 2 owners, does the iFrogz Summit Case seem like the perfect form of protection for you? What other features would you like to see out of an iPad 2 case like this?
