The trailer for the reboot of Nickelodeon's iCarly has just recently dropped. The original series was centered around friends who accidentally went viral with their comedy-inspired web series. iCarly ran for five solid seasons and the show seems to have become even more popular since the series ended, which is good news for Paramount Plus.

Along with the trailer, the release date was also reaffirmed. Paramount Plus will be streaming the iCarly reboot in mid-June, 2021. The first scene within the trailer features a flashback of the cast back in 2012, picking up right where the title character’s storyline wrapped up. Seeing the past footage of the cast draws even more attention to the fact that the characters are now fully-fledged adults.

Freddie’s cheeks are now covered up by a five o’clock shadow and the iCarly trailer shows clips of the characters toasting with champagne. Seeing the characters navigate adulthood can be jarring at first, as fans watch them transform the web series from a hobby into a more professional endeavor. New faces have been added to the reboot as well, most notably Carly’s best friend Sam, who was previously played by Jennette McCurdy. Fulfilling the role as Carly’s best friend and roommate is Harper, played by actress Laci Mosley. Sadly, Mosley faced racist attacks on social media that prompted her co-stars to defend her and condemn the hateful comments.

The iCarly trailer also reveals that Freddie has been divorced several times in the past and now has a stepdaughter named Millicent. Even though it may seem like a lot of changes are to come for the reboot, lots of the show's core remains the same. Returning to their roles are Miranda Cosgrove (Carly), Jerry Trainor (Spencer), and Nathan Kress (Freddie). The characters also seem to be residing in the same iconic apartment as the original comedy show.

Another fan favorite returning is Nevel Papperman (Reed Alexander), the diabolical web critic who posed a major threat to their web show. In recent interviews, many members of the cast have mentioned how at home and familiar it felt to be reunited, with Trainor telling ET that getting the group back together was akin to riding a bike. Reed Alexander told CNN that, "coming back to iCarly after so many years to be a part of the reboot was incredibly fun. Being together on set with the cast again, playing our parts again - it all felt extremely natural, and I know the viewers are in for a treat when the show premieres.”

Streaming services have been ushering in a wave of nostalgia by bringing back classic favorites, and iCarly is no exception. When iCarly was added to Netflix towards the beginning of this year, its fandom multiplied and was yearning for a revival, and the trailer suggests they will be pleased with the results.

iCarly premieres on June 17th, 2021, on Paramount Plus.
