iCarly star Jennette McCurdy finally confirms the rumors circulating that she may be returning to acting in the near future.

During an episode of her podcast Empty Inside, McCurdy ended up revealing to Anna Faris why she made the decision to leave Hollywood. She allowed herself to be vulnerable, sharing that her mother had forced her into stardom at a young age and was extremely mentally abusive throughout her childhood as well. She recoiled at how she was embarrassed by her past roles because she didn’t have full control over her career at the time and which opportunities she could accept or decline. Then, in August 2022, McCurdy shocked the world when she published her memoir I'm Glad My Mom Died, the response to which she discussed during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Throughout the book, she goes on to fully recount and explain in detail how her mother abused her as well as revealing her battles with alcoholism, eating disorders, and the sexual harassment she experienced while being on Nickelodeon's iCarly at the hands of someone she only refers to as "The Creator." McCurdy made it very clear and transparent that the best thing for her mental health, peace, and healing journey was to separate herself from the acting industry, which is also why she made the decision to not reprise her role for the iCarly reboot. Now, in a recent interview with THR, McCurdy cleared up the confusion surrounding the rumors that she may be returning to acting. She stated, “I definitely want to focus on writing and directing, but as a result of the healing that happened due to the writing of the book, I think I’ve been able to open the door to acting in some way.”

McCurdy got her big break when she landed her famous role as Sam Puckett in the hit Nickelodeon series iCarly. The popular sitcom ran from 2007-2012 and shortly after spending 5 years working on the show, McCurdy later went on to reprise her role in the spin-off series Sam & Cat. However, quickly after Sam & Cat came to an end, McCurdy promptly said goodbye to Nickelodeon for good. McCurdy's presence still somewhat lingered throughout Hollywood in the years following her sudden exit from Nickelodeon. She went on to produce/write her very own web series, What's Next For Sarah?, and picked up a few small film and TV roles here and there. However, McCurdy's slow absence from the Entertainment Industry altogether began to become very clear to fans. In 2020, the actress officially announced her retirement from acting to the public.

Hardcore fans of McCurdy will not only be excited that they may be reunited with her on-screen down the line, but also that she has been able to find relief and peace in telling her story. Not to mention, the actress has also most certainly showcased her full range of talents off-screen as well, from producing to writing, perhaps directing may be next on the agenda as well?

Plus, if McCurdy is going to return to acting that means there might be a slight possibility that she will eventually make a pop-up appearance on the iCarly reboot. For now, McCurdy is enjoying the success of her new memoir, as well as the immense support (including from iCarly lead Miranda Cosgrove) and healing the book has brought her as well.
