Despite playing through Dynasty Warriors games for over 19 years, gamers have yet to grow tired of the franchise's tried-and-true “press one button and slaughter thousands” style of gameplay, especially when the series mixes up its traditional Feudal Japan setting and branches out into other beloved franchises. The series' first Nintendo-centric release, Hyrule Warriors, brought Link and company onto the battlefield, turning loose beloved characters to destroy all comers with screen-clearing panache. The game predictably sold well, leading to the game receiving a 3DS port.

That port, Hyrule Warriors Legends, received a bevy of new content, including a reimagined girl Link dubbed Linkle. Now, Zelda fans hungry for more Hyrule hack-and-slash have DLC to look forward to, with Nintendo announcing that fan favorite Link’s Awakening character Marin will join the fracas.

The announcement, confirmed via Nintendo of America’s official Twitter on March 26th, revealed that the Koholint Island musician would be coming to Hyrule Warriors for both 3DS and Wii U in a special The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DLC pack. While fans will remember that Marin wasn’t exactly combat savvy in the Game Boy entry of the Zelda franchise (which has been dubbed one of the greatest Game Boy games of all time), Nintendo promises that the harp playing love interest will be more than capable of holding her own on the battlefield.

In addition to Marin, the Link’s Awakening pack will include 16 new My Fair costumes, a brand new map for Adventure Mode with two corresponding challenge battle scenarios, and a new weapon for the crossbow wielding Linkle. Nintendo has yet to give a concrete release date for the pack, but the company has promised that Marin will join the Hyrule Warriors roster sometime in Summer 2016.

Marin and the Link’s Awakening pack join two other previously announced upcoming DLC packs, with a pack themed around the Toon Link-centric games Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks set to release in Autumn 2016, while the 3DS Zelda game A Link Between Worlds will get a DLC pack in Winter 2016. The Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks pack promises a brand new character and a new weapon for Toon Link, while A Link Between Worlds will bring two new characters to the game.

Fans looking to take Marin for a spin may purchase the Link’s Awakening pack for $4.99, guaranteeing the character and weapons for play the day the pack is released, much in the same way Nintendo made the DLC packs for Mario Kart 8 available for pre-purchase ahead of release.

With Hyrule Legends Warriors earning a favorable 3 out of 5 from GameRant, there’s plenty to enjoy about the hack-and-slash heavy Zelda spin-off, and with Nintendo promising more fan favorite characters down the line, it seems there will be plenty of content to keep Legend of Zelda fans coming back.
