There are a number of playable characters in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, but not all of them will be available at the beginning of the game. Indeed, players will need to unlock many of the characters in this new musou game from Omega Force, and that is done in a variety of ways. For those fans that are specifically interested in unlocking the Great Fairies in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, this guide has full details on the process.

The first step to getting the Great Fairies in Age of Calamity is to unlock a quest called Offering Help on the Road, which becomes available after completing the first mission in Chapter 4. Once this quest has opened up, players should put 4,500 rupees toward it, and this will unlock three new quests: Fairy Fountain: Grassy Plains, Fairy Fountain: Deep Snows, and Fairy Fountain: Desert Sands. Each of these quests ends with a battle against a Great Fairy, and fans will need to defeat them all to advance.

When that is done, players will receive one final mission, called Fairy Fountain: Battlefield, which again culminates in a fight against a Great Fairy. To note, this mission is a bit harder than the preceding three, and Hyrule Warrior: Age of Calamity fans are advised to enlist their best characters for the battle. Players should also put some focus on precise execution during this mission, or they may find that they are simply unable complete it within the allotted amount of time.

After finding success in this final battle, players will receive notification that the Great Fairies have been unlocked, and indeed they can now be controlled. Somewhat interestingly, all four of the Fairies are combined into a single character in Age of Calamity, with fans using various attacks to switch between them. This means that players will really need to get familiar with the offensive maneuvers of each Fairy if they want to maximize their efficacy against the various enemies in the game.

Of course, musou fans can get some practice with the Great Fairies before they take them into a real mission by spending some time in the character-specific training that is available. These tutorials give players a chance to really get familiar with the move sets of new characters, and they can prove quite helpful. Additionally, there are missions that will bestow improvements upon the Great Fairies, though fans will need to use materials in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity to unlock some of those.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
