Not too long ago, Kingston Technologies revealed its next addition to the HyperX brand of gaming headsets, the aptly named HyperX Cloud 2 Wireless Gaming Headset. Its name may suggest that it is a simple, wireless version of the Cloud 2 headset, but that is oversimplifying things.

Instead of being a simple gimmick, the wireless elements of this HyperX headset are impressive all around. The HyperX Cloud 2 Wireless Gaming Headset boasts a battery life of 30 hours, and in our time with it, charging it never became a priority. The headset would reliably go for days of intense use without needing a charge, which cannot be said for every wireless headset. Not worrying about the battery life made it much easier to get into the games, movies, or music without any nagging thoughts in the back of the mind, and it is super easy to connect as well.

Users simply need to plug a dongle into the device they want to connect with, and they are good to go. Of course, given that there is USB-C connectivity for the headphones, users will need to be cautious not to lose the dongle, but the upkeep here isn't anything serious. Between the long-battery life and simple connectivity, the HyperX Cloud 2 Wireless Gaming Headset is about as hassle free as anyone can expect wireless headphones to be.

Pair this with its sound quality, and the headset manages to pack a punch. With its 7.1 surround sound and 53mm drivers, the sound comes through as clear as day, practically regardless of how close to the gaming, movie, or music source the headphones are. HyperX states that the headset's range is 20 meters, and it's easy to believe that it means no loss in quality for every single meter of that. When gaming headphone wearers walk into another room and forget they have them on, it's a good problem to have, which is made much easier with its frame.

In extended gaming sessions, the frame of the HyperX Cloud 2 Wireless Gaming Headset never became bothersome; instead, it was forgotten about most of the time. Whether playing a casual game of Among Us or listening to heavy-hitting music, the design allows fans to focus on the sound and not the headphones. It fits comfortably on the ears, while managing to be lightweight enough to not draw attention yet durable enough that it can take a few hits, if need be. Overall, it checks most of the boxes that those looking for new headphones would want, and at the price point of $149.99, many would likely feel like the purchase was well worth it.

The one drawback that comes to mind is its available platforms, as it works for all major platforms except Xbox. It'll easily connect to PC, PS4, and Switch, but unfortunately, Xbox One players aren't able to use these headphones. As a result, using this headset with the Xbox Series X also seems unlikely (despite sharing a release date of November 10). Given the headphone's compatibility with the PS4, though, it'll likely work with the PS5, and the HyperX Cloud 2 Wireless Gaming Headset seems like a good purchase to go alongside it.

The HyperX Cloud 2 Wireless Gaming Headset releases November 10 for $149.99. Game Rant was provided a pair of headphones for the purposes of this review.
