It’s a good day for JRPG fans, as NIS America has finally announced the release date for Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory! The third installment in the PS3 series will launch early next year for Sony’s console.

North American gamers can expect Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory to become available on March 12th, 2013, whereas European players can look forward to the game three days later on the 15th.

Pre-orders for the game have already gone up on NIS America’s store page, including that of the game’s limited edition. The LE comes packed in a “Time Capsule” and includes the game, the official soundtrack, an artbook, and an even smaller time capsule packed inside. We’ve posted a picture of the limited edition below.

In Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory, players once again reprise the role of CPU Neptune, the main character from the first game in the series. Transported back to the 1980s, Neptune must defeat the Seven Sages, who wish to see the world of Gamindisutri rid of the CPUs (Console Patron Units). For the unfamiliar, the Hyperdimension Neptunia series has always been a play on the console war, with each of the CPUs representing a different platform. Those deeply engrossed in the game industry are sure to get a laugh out of the series’ jokes.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory Limited Edition

Publisher NIS America states that the game will have an even more “refined” battle system than previous iterations. While the series has always been turn-based, Hyperdimension Neptunia mk 2 (which released earlier this year) changed up the formula by allowing players to move around the battlefield. And of course, the game will retain the humor the franchise is best known for. Which probably means more boob jokes.

As a big fan of the original game and  – and someone playing through Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk 2 at the moment – I can only hope that developers Compile Heart and Idea Factory have decided to forgoe the use of 3D character models, at least in cutscenes. In the original Hyperdimension Neptunia, the 2D models really helped the game stand out, as the art style was fantastic. However, in mk2, the character models leave a bit to be desired, as the series has never been known for its graphical prowess.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to pre-order that limited edition.
