A few weeks ago, Ubisoft revealed and subsequently made its newest IP, Hyper Scape, available to play seemingly out of no where. At the time, Twitch streamers debuted the game, though viewers could also get in on the technical test early. The game attempted to mix up the popular Battle Royale genre by letting players fight it out in a completely digital landscape, much of which was inspired by the urban settings of Paris. However, the Ubisoft Forward event revealed a bit more to the game's universe including hints at a dark and growing threat.

While most players quickly adapted to the frenetic gameplay action, Hyper Scape finally showed off a bit more as to why things are happening in this digital universe. Taking place over thirty years into the future, things have seemingly spiraled out of control int he real world leaving most of the population to live in massive mega cities. A company called Prisma Dimensions developed new technology that let people leave the real world and explore a virtual one, similar to the popular book and movie, Ready Player One.

The Hyper Scape features a full digital world, but as the trailer indicates, Crown Rush is its most popular attraction by far. As players know from the technical test, 99 players fight it out in a digital landscape called Neo Arcadia. The trailer also hints that there's something else going on beneath the surface. Strange events have started happening such as virtual players actually getting hurt or disappearing completely in the game's real world. The promise of answers to those who are able to find out the dark secrets at the center of this world.

In addition to setting up a surprising story component to this new battle royale, Ubisoft also revealed a few new gameplay additions as well. While the technical test showed off a few basic features like the bouncing Ball hack or the defensive armor hack, a new shockwave hack has been added to the game which lets players slam the ground to create an area of effect blast to push other players away. The Harpy SMG has also been added to the game, which should give close to mid range players a new option on the battlefield.

Thankfully, it's much easier for players to go hands on with the game, even in its pre-release state. The game has left its technical test status and has entered open beta on the PC. Players can sign into their UPlay account or head over to the main Hyper Scape website to sign up.

Hyper Scape is targeting a 2020 launch for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
