It’s safe to say that Ubisoft has made a splash with the official reveal and test launch of Hyper Scape, and in a short time too. The new first-person battle royale shooter may have launched in the form of a Technical Test just this morning, but already Hyper Scape has managed to rock the charts on Twitch, a clear sign that people aren’t getting tired of new battle royale games just yet.

The jury may still be out on how the game compares to the likes of Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Call of Duty: Warzone, but even in this early phase Hyper Scape has set itself apart in a few noticeable ways, most notably in the dense virtual city that serves as its map. No doubt players are going to want in, but the thing they need to know is that there’s no surefire way to access the Technical Test, and even then there’s a bit of a process in getting a chance to do so.

In order to play the game, players are going to have to watch it first. Evidently taking a note from Valorant’s closed beta, Ubisoft is utilizing Twitch’s loot drop system to make it so viewers of Hyper Scape livestreams can become eligible to receive an access key for the Technical Test. The more they watch, the greater the chances of receiving a key.

It may be a bit of a process for first-time viewers to set up, but the game’s official website explains the steps for receiving Twitch drops clearly enough. First off, they’ll need to have both a Twitch and Uplay account (both of which they’ll then have to link together), as well as download the Uplay client on their PC. From there, they can start watching drop-supporting streams, and once they receive the key, all they need to do is click on the game’s banner in the Uplay client and they’re free to start running and gunning.

If that sounds like too much trouble, players also have the option of registering for a chance to receive an access key on the Hyper Scape website. But given that Ubisoft seems to be focusing more on the Twitch drop promotion (which makes sense, given the emphasis the publisher has placed on the game’s built-in Twitch support), players might have a better chance of getting in by watching livestreams.

Other things worth noting is that the Hyper Scape Technical Test will end this Tuesday, July 7, at 11:59 PDT, and is only available for PC users in select North American and European countries. If they’re able to get in, though, players will be able to carry their progression into future test phases and, eventually, the full launch.

Hyper Scape is targeting a 2020 launch for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
