The new Ubisoft battle royale game Hyper Scape has been available in open beta for a month now for PC players and has had a huge impact online, particularly with its partner platform Twitch. Console players have recently gained access to the game and one big question on players' minds is whether the game will feature cross-play.

Hyper Scape is the latest in an influx of free battle royale games such as Fall Guys, Fortnite and Apex Legends, but the game is set apart by its range of power-ups and the ability to allow players to vote on map adjustments while in-game. The game has been in open beta for a while now on PC, but recently launched officially and became available for console players.

A blog post from Ubisoft has confirmed that Hyper Scape does not currently feature cross-play but there are plans to include it "at a later date." Cross-play is an increasingly desirable feature for players who wish to play with friends across different platforms, particularly as the range of available consoles continues to diversify with next-gen releases.

Ubisoft has said that cross progression is available for Hyper Scape, meaning that any progress made in one version of the game will carry over to other platforms if a player chooses to play on different devices. This also applies to content that players have unlocked via watching crown-cast enabled Twitch streams through the Open Beta Battle Pass, which will link to their account on any platform.

Some good news for next-gen console players is that Hyper Scape will be available as a launch title on both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Whether cross-play will include next-gen consoles when it is eventually added is unknown at this point, but will likely be addressed when a cross-play announcement is made.

Since the game exited its open beta on August 11, Ubisoft has released some details about the first season battle pass for Hyper Scape. Players will be able to unlock new skins, emotes and a new currency known as bitcrowns will be unlocked. The first reviews of Hyper Scape have been largely positive, and the game has certainly exceeded expectations with its popularity on Twitch. Whether the game can keep up its momentum among a range of other popular battle royale games is yet to be seen, but it's sure to get a boost now that it is available on console platforms.

Hyper Scape is available now for free on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and will be a launch title for PS5 and Xbox Series X.
